How To Get The Most Out of This Website

This digital and Internet explosion has humans talking more than ever before. The average American adult spends 11 hours per day on electronic and mobile devices. Of that, an alarming 5 hours is spent exclusively on smartphones. We have an average of seven social media accounts, which are checked approximately 17 times per day.

Whether we’re talking face-to-face, on the phone, FaceTiming, conducting business, texting, emailing, chatting, tweeting or updating our social media status, we’re exchanging words – more than we’re doing anything else (including sleeping).

Sadly, the emergence in digital communication options hasn’t necessarily improved our dialogue. More fights take place via SMS messages and on social media than in person, and the mobs of cyber bullies and terrorists now have a wealth of platforms to anonymously deploy their wicked exploits. When we consider that death and life are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21) and a fool’s mouth is his ruin (Proverbs 18:7) “Watch Your Mouth!” aims to educate, empower and equip you to create a life and a world you want to live in by presenting vivid examples of the outcome of constructive and destructive communication.

This site is designed to provide you with multiple ways to learn, grow, be inspired and engage with other like-minded (or rather, like-mouthed) people.  Dive into the robust content based on your preferred method of engagement using the following tools :

  • Blog Posts - Gain inspiration from weekly blog posts.  Each post focuses on one of the 850 "Verbal Activities" I discovered in the Bible and mapped to our present day communication.  Verbal Activities are simply things our words do.  For instance, in every conversation we accuse, boast, curse, defend, encourage, flatter, gossip, honor, insult, joke, etc.  On average, a post takes about 5 minutes to read (unless you decide to study the suggested scriptures for fuller context).  Each post has two sections "That Was Then" (a Biblical account) and "This is Now" (a modern-day, non-religious account).  New posts will be added once per week.

  • Podcasts - For the busy person on the go, this is a perfect "espresso shot" of wisdom.  Like the blog, each podcast focuses on a Verbal Activity and discusses the impact of what was said.  I refer to them as espresso shots because they are brief (about 30 minutes each) and packed full of similar Biblical and non-religious inspiration as the Blog Posts, but with more practical content.

  • Discussion Forum - Got something to say?  Join our community to weigh in on our weekly online discussions and put your new communication skills to the test. Share thoughts and personal experiences related to the featured content.  As each week will feature a Verbal Activity, this is your opportunity to encourage others with scriptures, stories, and fun facts.  Only Members can post content that can enrich the conversation so sign up now.
